Expansion of the Pier and New Observation Post in China’s Overseas Military Base in Djibouti
China continues upgrading its maritime base in Djibouti and has recently added a military post.
iSi assess that this new post is aimed to allow visual observation of the pier.
Parallel to the establishment of military observation posts infrastructure, China continues to develop the dock at the port.
High resolution imagery based on EROS-B satellite from recent months, shows that the dock at the port has grown to a length of 540 meters, and at its end, another vertical dock length of 100 meters.
The development of the port is not surprising. For China, Djibouti is an essential milestone in the “Belt and Road Initiative” initiative, and in the last two years, China has invested about 1.4 billion dollars in the country, according to the Economist.
It appears that the Chinese government is expected to use this port for military as well as civilian uses in the future.
